Nia del Mar grew up in Nicaragua in the 1980s during a time of political turmoil but also a time of resilience and growth for a people who had recently ousted the Somoza dictatorship. Nia del Mar lives now in Southern California but continues to have strong ties to the country and the people of Nicaragua. La Güegüensa is a play written to honor of all who have given their life, freedom and livelihood to stand up against the new violent dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo. #heroesdeabril
